Afternoon Tea

The children from Hawthorn Class (Reception and Year 1) are learning about life in the Isle of Man in times gone by. On Tuesday 30th June they invited older members of the Ballasalla Community, in conjunction with Southern Befrienders, to come and share afternoon tea, and chat about how life has changed since they were at school.

Class teacher, Jayne Mort said:

'I am very proud of the children and the questions they asked. It was lovely to be able to host this event and I am grateful to our guests for the many objects and photos they brought in to show the children. They included an oil lamp and several medals.'

Pupil Lucy Corrin aged 6 said:

'It was good to eat the cake. I learnt that they didn't have electricity and they had a tin bath in front of the fire'.

Guest Mair Jones said:

'It was a wonderful afternoon. The children were surprised to hear that many of us did not have a toilet inside the house!'

Debbie Lowe of Southern Befrienders said:

'It has been lovely afternoon. Everyone enjoyed talking to and listening to the young children.'
