Free tours of historic tram stables

Douglas horse tram stables will be open to the public every weekend throughout October.

Isle of Man Railways is supporting Manx National Heritage's Heritage Open Days by not charging for guided tours of the Victorian and Edwardian stables on Queen’s Promenade each weekend from 1 to 30 October 2016. Douglas Borough Council is planning to sell the stables buildings so this may be the public’s last chance to see the working stables and meet the tram horses there.

Tours take place on Saturdays and Sundays at midday and 1pm and are led by the Friends of Douglas Bay Horse Tramway. There will be no charge for the tours throughout October, although places are limited and can still be booked in advance at Derby Castle booking office. Donations can be made following the tours at the stables gift shop.

The gift shop and photo exhibition will be open on Saturdays and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. Newly arrived stock includes postcards from this year’s 140th anniversary celebrations, priced three for £1 and exclusive IoM Railways tea towels, priced £5 each.
