Below is a summary of the air traffic usingIsle of ManAirportduring 2013 and December. 2013 annual traffic increased by 43,300, or a very respectable 6.14%, with 749,315 passengers using the Airport. A slight, 0.47%, increase was recorded for December 2013, with passengers up by just 277 to 59,237. The following points should be noted:
- 2013 was the highest annual total since 2008 and the 6.14% increase was a 16 years high.
- The December increase was lower than expected due to the inclement weather, but nevertheless follows the trend of reducing monthly increases.
- The NW and SE routes were responsible for virtually all the increase during 2013, with regional routes performing poorly.
- In December, the SE saw a slight decrease, whist the NW continues to perform strongly.
- 2013 was a devastating year for route losses with 9 seasonal and year round routes cut.
North West market
- The 10%, or 33,000 increase in NW passengers took the annual NW total to 354,000. The December increase, although lower than previous months, was 10.7%
- Liverpoolsaw a 16.5% increase in 2013, topping 200,000 passengers for the year and was up over 14% in December.Manchestergrew by 5.6% for the year and 7.9% for December.
- The tough competitive environment reducedBlackpooltraffic by over 12% for the year.
London market
- SE traffic rose by over 17% for 2013 to a record 240,500. December traffic was slightly down.
- The Gatwick route was up by almost 43,000 passengers, or 30%, to 185,500 for 2013.
- LondonCitytraffic grew by 17.5% in 2013, despite only one daily service from September.
- December saw a 3.8% decrease in SE traffic due to the loss of LTN and once daily LCY.
Other Markets
- Regionally, Only theDublin,Genevaand Southampton routes saw increases during 2013, and routes toScotland, Leeds, Jersey, Luton,Oxfordand other seasonal routes were terminated.
- Charter traffic was up by over 1,100 passengers or 15.3%
Air cargo was slightly up, and mail flown to and from the Island rose by 37%
