Isle of Man Sport held a second weekend of anti-doping workshops for local athletes and officials planning to attend this year's NatWest Island Games.
The ‘Clean Sport' sessions took place on Friday 7, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 April 2017 and form part of Isle of Man Sport's anti-doping education and testing programme, launched last year.
Granville Bennett, Educator for UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), delivered 5 sessions, which were attended by a total of 58 people.
Isle of Man Sport has responsibility for ensuring the World Anti-Doping Agency code is adhered to in the Island.
Chris Quine, Sports Performance Co-ordinator with Isle of Man Sport, said:
‘The final group of workshops will take place in May and this will be the final opportunity for Island Games competitors to take up to option of anti-doping education before the Games in Gotland commence.
‘We are pleased that over 120 people have attended the education sessions so far, but within excess of 200 people traveling as part of the Isle of Man Team to Gotland, there are still a large number who need to attend the upcoming sessions in May. It would be devastating for any member of the Manx team to fail a drug test, especially if it was due to ignorance of the rules and procedures’.
Places on the next series of workshops will be available shortly and information on dates and times will be sent to Island Games team via Island Games Association of Mann.
