The Island’s GPs will meet together for an afternoon education session on Wednesday 1 October. These education sessions take place every three months, giving GPs the opportunity to discuss developments in medical care and best practice, and to examine ways to enhance care for patients in the Isle of Man.

GP Practices across the Island will remain open during the afternoon for patients to visit the practice nurse, make future appointments, collect test results and order repeat prescriptions.

GPs will not be available for routine appointments. Urgent appointments and any urgent visits across the whole Island will be provided by locum GPs based at practices in Douglas, Peel and the South. Anyone who needs to see a doctor urgently on the afternoon of 1 October should ring their GP Practice as normal.

Dr Alex Allinson, Chair of the GP Sub-Committee of the Isle of Man Medical Association said:

'The sessions this year, of which this will be the third, have proved invaluable in enabling GPs to continue their professional education and development. By discussing together how to improve pathways of care and medical treatment outcomes, we can continue to provide the highest quality of care to patients on the Island. We are very appreciative of the public’s support for these education sessions.'
